Chinese New Year comes to Cedars Park Primary School
Children at a John Milton Academy Trust primary school took part in a dazzling dragon dance as they learned all about Chinese New Year.
Youngsters at Cedars Park Primary School were treated to a Chinese New Year workshop on Monday January 9 and Friday, January 13.
Enthusiastic pupils learned all about the country, the year of the rabbit and took part in traditional dancing with traditional paper fans.
They then donned a dragon costume and parasols, taking part in their own colourful parade.
Josie Taquinio-Singh, from Education Group, who led the events, said the workshops had really captured the children’s’ imaginations.
“The children have absolutely loved it,” she said.
“Each class first took part in a fan dance and then dressed up for the dragon parade at the end.
“They have really enjoyed themselves. It’s great for them to learn about different countries and cultures across the world.”
Every class in the school took part in the workshops, which were split between sessions on Monday and Friday.
Lucy White, Lower KS2 Raising Standards lead, said: “With Chinese New Year coming up soon, we wanted to bring the celebrations to Cedars Park for the children to experience.
“The children had a great time in the workshops and have learned a lot about Chinese New Year and Chinese culture.”
